Malibu Horizon specializes in the process known as “detox”. Detoxification is the process of medically managing the effects resulting from stopping alcohol and or substance use. Detoxification is the first step in our recovery programs. When a drug addict or alcoholic stops abusing, withdrawal begins. Detox is the managing of the withdrawal symptoms.
Abruptly stopping drug and or alcohol use can trigger a variety of symptoms and effects. It can also create significant cravings to drink or use drugs. At this point in the process, its critical that certain steps are taken to move an individual to the next stage of healing. Through our proven system, we know how to do this effectively regardless of the level of abuse. Detox generally lasts between 3 to 10 days, depending on the individual’s case history and physical condition.

Suboxone is a highly effective medication that we use to help reduce opiate addiction. Suboxone also helps ease any withdrawal symptoms and side effects.
Alcohol abuse touches the lives of practically every family out there. Untreated and unmanaged, it can cause major life challenges for everyone affected. For the alcoholic, withdrawal can cause seizures, delusions, delirium and even be fatal.
Malibu Horizon ensures the alcohol detox is performed effectively and comfortably. Although it may not be easy for all patients, we know the best methods for complete recovery and ensure that all of those we treat are comfortable in our facility.
The moment an alcohol drinker stops drinking, the “withdrawing” from alcohol begins. The human body often has a negative reaction to this. Although it may seem impossible for some cases, getting through the detoxification process is possible. Addressing the physical, emotional and psychological effects and preventing the others is what detox is all about.
Detoxification of alcohol is the first step of our alcohol treatment program. Providing stability and perspective, our patients are then ready to actively participate in Malibu Horizon’s additional programs for total recovery.
Opiates are prescribed by a doctor to relieve physical pain. Proven effective where other pain relievers fall short, they have helped millions of people deal with some of the toughest diseases. However, they can have negative side effects as well. Opiates are a specific classification of prescription medication that people can become highly dependent upon.
When someone stops taking any opiate, withdrawal begins. The detox process from opiates should always be done under the care of a licensed medical professional familiar with the opiate detoxification process. Opiate detoxification can last 7 to 14 days.
Here at Malibu Horizon, any opiate withdrawal effects are safely and properly managed using a drug called Suboxone.
Benzodiazepines are a separate classification of prescription medication. They are primarily prescribed for anti-anxiety or insomnia. Ativan and Xanax are two of the more common drugs in this classification.
Stopping Benzodiazepine without the proper medical supervision is dangerous. In fact, it can cause severe w/d symptoms including death, Seizures and delirium. The moment someone stops taking a Benzodiazepine, withdrawal will begin.
Used by millions for insomnia, Ambien is a sedative, also called a hypnotic. It affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause sleep problems. This medication causes you to relax and fall asleep. Soma is used as a muscle relaxant. Unfortunately, they are both frequently abused. Although they belong to separate class of drugs the withdrawal symptoms are very similar to alcohol and benzodiazepines.
Unfortunately, Soma is frequently abused. And although they belong to another classification of drugs, their withdrawal symptoms are very similar to Benzodiazepines.
Heroin is the most commonly abused opiate in the world. At any given time, there are 500,000 users in the U.S. alone. Illegal and highly addictive, this semi-synthetic drug can devastate lives. The good news is that addiction can be treated effectively.
Although Opiate withdrawal is usually not fatal, it is very uncomfortable. We ensure that detox goes smoothly by using Suboxone.
Cocaine and Methamphetamine are psychoactive stimulant drugs that increase alertness and energy. Abused in high doses, it can induce euphoria and enhance self-esteem. Its side effects, including nervousness, anxiety, paranoia and heart issues, are well known.
During intoxication, these drugs can be life threatening. While withdrawing from the drug, it is usually not life threatening, but toxic effects can still occur, including heart attack and stroke. These effects through withdrawal need to be managed. At Malibu Horizons, our process for cocaine and methamphetamine detox is symptomatic and highly effective.
