Background of Alcohol:

Ethanol, commonly known as ethyl or grain alcohol, is a flammable chemical compound which is used as fuel additive, antiseptic, and many more. Ethanol is one of the primary ingredients in alcohol beverages. The ethanol serves as the psychoactive drug and depressant to its drinker. Back in our early history, alcohol beverages were used for different purposes such as relaxant, aphrodisiacs and many more. Back in the time of Alexander the Great, drunkenness was a sign of masculinity. It was also proved that Alexander himself had this leisure pursuit of being drunk. The earliest history of its origin is, up to now, unknown. Nevertheless, some experts speculate that the discovery of its usage was done by accident. However, in our time, alcohols' composition has been already studied. Alcoholic beverage, as they said, is a mixture of fermented ethanol from cereal grains, fruit juices, and honey combined with hundreds of additional ingredients. The concentration of alcohol in beverages was specified by means of volume, weight, and proof.
Uses of Alcoholic Beverages:
Alcoholic beverages, as stated above, were used for different purposes. In many parts of the world, alcoholic beverages are a famous drink during daily meals. Most of our main course meal during lunch or dinner is best served with wines or other alcoholic beverages. However, in most countries, drinking alcoholic beverages is one way to celebrate a certain occasion. Alcoholic beverage, like beer, was used as a means of calorie distribution. It was also believed that taking a high amount of alcoholic drinks will help us to kill bacteria which are present in our body. In cold weathered countries like Russia, Germany, and some places in the United States, drinking strong alcoholic beverages was a way to warm up drinker’s bodies.
Alcoholic beverage is also a famous ingredient in chocolates and other foods. A variety of chefs and cooks are using wine to flavor their cuisine, while alcohol adds pleasure in the flavor of chocolates.
Alcohol Addiction:
Although alcoholic beverage has many uses, drinking too much of it can cause addiction. Alcohol abuse is not only a problem of adult drinkers. In our time, alcohol dependence is also a problem of the minors. Many and many more drinkers today couldn’t help drinking alcoholic beverages. For some drinkers, alcoholic beverage gives them a pleasure that they can’t understand. Ethanol, a primary ingredient of alcoholic beverages, acts directly with our brain like other sedative drugs. However, although alcoholic persons know this fact, they can’t stop themselves because they are being hooked with what the alcohol could give them. Alcohol abuse has many side effects in our body. Some of these side effects include:

- Dehydration
- Irritability
- Insomnia
- Respirations
- High blood pressure
- Confusions

Alcohol Rehabilitation:
A.A., or Alcoholics Anonymous society, is one of many groups whose mission is to save alcoholics in their drinking habits. The society was composed of 2,000,000 recovered or is recovering alcoholics from different parts of the world, including the United States. Their beliefs about being alcoholic were undeniable and remarkable. Members of Alcoholics Anonymous society believe that every alcoholic has a right to change. The society offers treatment by means of spiritual experience that will create a complete change in one person.
Alcohol abuse can also be treated by means of Detoxification. Detoxification is a process wherein alcoholic beverages are being substituted with drugs which have effects that are similar to those of alcohol. This medication was done with the use of minor tranquilizers. The best example of minor tranquilizers used in this medication is Benzodiazepine. This drug is also considered to be a sedative that helps to relieve withdrawal symptoms.
Alcohol addiction can be treated by means of the right rehabilitation facility. However, without the help of the patient himself, treatment will only become impossible. Realization plays a majority part in the rehabilitation process. Unless a person admits that he is addicted to alcohol, he/she will never find his way towards treatment.
